B Squared has worked with schools in North Lanarkshire to develop a total solution for planning, assessment, reporting, monitoring, tracking and moderation of the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE). This solution aims to support all children and young people to achieve Scotland’s vision for life in the 21st Century including learning life and work. Used within our Connecting Steps assessment software, our Steps to Excellence assessment framework covers the eight curriculum areas of the CfE. Teachers can track pupil progress across the early, first, second, third and fourth level benchmarks and the pre-early level milestones for learners with complex additional support needs. Scottish schools can also easily demonstrate pupils’ achievements with photo/video evidence of learning using our evidence management system, Evisense.

CfE progress tracking with Steps to Excellence

Teachers can use our Steps to Excellence assessment framework to track progress, support their robust assessment judgements and plan both universal and targeted support for pupils. It provides opportunities for staff to reflect on the purpose of learning and supports dialogue about teaching and learning, assessment, attainment and achievement. Its powerful reporting tools can be used to represent detailed progress and achievement information to pupils, parents, staff, governors, local authorities and Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education.

It also identifies success criteria to help learners with complex Additional Support Needs (ASNs) achieve the pre-early level milestones for:

  • Numeracy and Mathematics

Evidence CfE achievements and experiences quickly and easily with Evisense

Designed to help educators record and highlight their pupils’ achievements and experiences, Evisense creates a portfolio of a child’s educational journey through the CfE.

Evisense makes capturing, managing and sharing evidence of learning easier

Achievements and experiences can be quickly and easily recorded as videos, photos, audio files or documents. These are stored on our secure hosted platform and can be shared with parents to increase engagement in their child’s development.

Evidence achievements

Evisense allows teachers to tag different pieces of evidence with one of the eight SHANARRI wellbeing indicators (safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible, and included) or as an aspect of the learner’s Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) accomplishments. Once tagged, these posts can be filtered and then viewed together to represent a pupil’s successes within each area or for a school to showcase the provision it delivers.
