Early Steps

An easy to use observation-based assessment framework for Early Years settings

Curriculum: Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Connecting Steps assessment framework: Early Steps

B Squared has created Early Steps for the assessment of children in Early Years settings who are working on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. Used within our Connecting Steps assessment software, it covers from birth to the Exceeded Early Learning Goals (ELG) across all 7 areas:

  • Mathematics
  • Literacy
  • Physical Development
  • Communications & Language
  • PSED
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts & Design

Connecting Steps assists with the observation process by breaking down the stages into smaller steps, enabling Early Years practitioners to record what each child has achieved and identify their next steps. These assessments can be displayed in a variety of ways, such as individual and group reports and graphs - to quickly and easily highlight progress made.

Working with B Squared has helped us strengthen our assessment procedures and tighten our planning. The Connecting Steps assessment software was crucial in securing our Outstanding OFSTED Inspection.
